Dr. Labaran Eulogizes Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf for Hospitals Renovation, Upgrade

The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has lauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for renovating and upgrading various health facilities at both primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

The commissioner made the commendation in an exclusive chat with the head of public relations unit of the ministry, Ibrahim Abdullahi, and made available to media outfits, Monday.

Dr. Labaran explained that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has made series of promises on healthcare during his electioneering campaign, part of which is the provision of general hospitals in LGAs that have not and functional primary health facility in every political ward across the 44 LGAs in Kano.

As a result, the commissioner went further to aver, some health facilities are being upgraded to general hospitals in an effort to fulfilling the promises so as to provide ease to the people especially with regards to their health.

Dr. Labaran asserted that it is discouraging nowadays that a person be transported from far and distanced LGA of more than 100km to access care somewhere else, adding that the hope of the government is to provide each LGA with a general hospital and qualified staff to handle any type of ailment.

He then called on the people to always rally the government in its quests to repositioning the state health sector and ensure ownership of the projects by making sure the structures are not vandalized and equipments not stolen by miscreants.

The commissioner advised people laways bear in minds that doctors and other health workers are humans like everybody who can do good and sometimes err as a result of practicing their standard of operations, they should therefore be allowed to carry out their official responsibilities based on the rules and regulations as specified by their profession.

On the other hand, Dr. Labaran cautioned health workers to shun harassing and meting inhumane treatments against the people coming to health facility for medical attention, stressing that the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf would not condone such kind of attitudes.

Governor Yusuf Assents Center for Disease Control Law

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has signed the Kano State Center for Disease Control and Prevention Law following its passage by the State House of Assembly.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson disclosed that the Governor assented to the bill at the commencement of the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House.

Speaking, Governor Yusuf restated his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and fostering the rapid socioeconomic development of the state.

He emphasized that the government remains steadfast in its efforts to initiate and implement policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of Kano State citizens.

Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support and cooperation of the people, urging them to sustain the momentum to achieve the administration’s set goals.

Kano PHIMA Intergrates More LGAs into Data Documentation, Routine Immunization Drive

In a significant move to strengthen the healthcare delivery in Kano State, the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has successfully coopted additional local government areas into ongoing data documentation and routine immunization initiative. The local government areas integrated include Tofa, Gwarzo, Karaye, Rogo, Kiru, Rano, Bunkure, Kura, and Garun Malam.

A statement issued by Binta Kabir Usman, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, highlighted that the expansion marks a critical milestone in the Government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive immunization coverage and accurate health data management.

The ongoing exercise, spearheaded by PHIMA and supported by key stakeholders, aims to enhance the accuracy of immunization records and improve vaccine accessibility for children in underserved Communities. By expanding coverage, the initiative seeks to reduce the incidence of preventable diseases and improve overall public health outcomes.

Speaking on the development the Director-General noted that "The inclusion of more LGAs in this documentation and immunization drive is a testament to our dedication to protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Through precise data collection and efficient vaccine distribution, we are ensuring that no child is left behind.”

 The documentation process involves rigorous data verification, household tracking, and enhanced coordination with local healthcare workers to improve immunization outreach. Health officials urge parents and guardians to take advantage of this program is opportunity by ensuring their children receive the necessary vaccinations as part of the national immunization schedule.

 Authorities also acknowledge and appreciate the support of community leaders, health workers, and partner organizations in facilitating this initiative. Their collaboration has been instrumental in overcoming challenges such as vaccine hesitancy and logistical constraints.

As the exercise continues, stakeholders remain committed to leveraging technology and Community engagement strategies to sustain progress and achieve full immunization coverage across the State.

Serve Kano People, Shun Materialism, DG DMCSA Tasks New KSCPC ES, Council Members

The newly-appointed Executive Secretary of Kano State Consumer Protection Council and the other council members have been called upon to resist the temptation of amassing worldly riches and ensure the safety of residents of the state as general consumers.

This charge was made by the Director-General Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Pharm.Gali Sule when friends and well-wishers escorted the newly appointees to the office on Monday.

He advised the appointees to be dedicated, honest, and God-fearing while discharging their duties, as their actions and inactions would have greatly affected the people of Kano, positively or otherwise.

Being a former Executive Secretary to the State Consumer Protection Council who served between 2014 and 2017, Pharm. Sule urged the new Executive Secretary and his team to partner with relevant stakeholders including the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), and State Ministry of Health, to move the state forward.

Lamenting how consumers' rights are being trampled upon in the state, the Director General assured theteeming  populace that with the composition of the present Council, including representatives of the business community, their rights would be adequately protected.

Earlier speaking, the new Executive Secretary of the Council Alhaji Zangina Jafaru solicited for the cooperation and support of the entire staff of the Agency and all stakeholders, warning that the business is not going to be as usual.

In their separate remarks, Honorable Ibrahim Ahmad Gama (Lugard) and Hajiya Sadiya Umar Bichi who spoke on behalf of the appointees, thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for finding them worthy for the appointments, pledging to work tirelessly so as to achieve the desired goals.

Those appointed as key members of the council include Honorable Ibrahim Ahmad Gama (Member representing Kano Central), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Bichi (Member representing Kano North), Alhaji Hussaini Bello Gidado (Member representing Kano South) Alhaji Munzali Abubakar (Representative of business community I, Kantin Kwari Market), Ali Muhammad Adakawa (Representative of business community II, Kwanar Singa), Alhaji Ahmed Isah Chedi (Representative of business community III, Dawanau Market), and Sani Gambo (Representative of business community IV, Abubakar Rimi Market).

Kano Hospital Board Inaugurates Committee to Thwart Maternal, Neonatal Mortality

As part of the efforts and commitment of the Kano government to curb maternal and neonatal mortality in the state, the Executive Secretary Hospital Management Board Dr. Mansur Nagoda has on Saturday inaugurated the Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Committee.

Dr. Nagoda said the Board, supported by State Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf is working round the clock to curtail maternal and neonatal death, which he describes as a critical public health goal that requires a multifaceted approach.

The Executive Secretary further stressed that, among the strategies put in place, the Board is making adequate provisions to ensure that all pregnant women have access to regular prenatal check-ups to monitor the health of both mother and baby, 

The Hospital Management Board will also promote the presence of skilled healthcare professionals during childbirth to manage complications effectively.

Other measures are creating awareness among women, especially in the rural areas, about maternal and neonatal health, including the importance of prenatal care, and involving community leaders and organizations to spread awareness and encourage healthy practices.

"We are committed to strengthening the health systems by investing in training healthcare providers to improve their skills in maternal and neonatal care," Dr. Nagoda observed.

"Curbing maternal and neonatal mortality requires a comprehensive approach that addresses healthcare access, education, nutrition, and social determinants of health. By implementing these strategies, we can make significant progress in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in Kano State." 

Manwhile, the members of the newly-inuagurated committee were drawn from different agencies and facilities, namely the Hospital Management Board, Primary Health Care Management Board, Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, and Khalifa Sheikh Isyaka Rabiu Paediatrics Hospital.

Dr. Nagoda charged the members of the committee to carry out their assignment with utmost dedication and determination.
