Kano HMB Holds Training on Strengthening Laboratory and Blood Banking Services

The Medical Laboratory Services Department under the Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has organized a one-day training workshop aimed at strengthening laboratory competency and improving blood banking services across health facilities in the state.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening Laboratory Competency: Enhancing Blood Banking Services,” brought together medical laboratory scientists and technicians from various hospitals to build capacity and align with best practices in blood banking and laboratory management.
During the technical sessions, papers were presented on best practices in blood banking, blood bank audit, the role of laboratories in critical care management especially in postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and sickle cell disease management and an overview of guidelines for blood banking services in Kano State.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary, HMB, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, emphasized the crucial role of effective blood banking in saving lives, particularly in emergency situations such as maternal hemorrhage, road traffic accidents, and sickle cell crises. He noted that maintaining safe and adequate blood supply is essential for reducing preventable deaths and improving clinical outcomes in hospitals.
Dr. Nagoda urged participants to rededicate themselves to duty and adopt a positive work attitude. He also commended His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, Executive Governor of Kano State, for his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to revitalizing the state’s health sector.
He highlighted that the Governor’s prompt support and consistent investment in healthcare infrastructure, manpower development, and essential services have significantly strengthened service delivery across public hospitals. According to him, such initiatives have restored confidence in the state’s healthcare system and boosted staff morale.
Facilitators include Dr. Hauwa Ibrahim Consultant Haematologist (HMB), Mallam Kabir Suleiman (AKTH), Dr. Halima Ismail (AKTH) and representatives of the National Blood Services Agency (NBSA).
The workshop ended with a renewed pledge by participants to uphold professional standards and contribute to improved blood banking services across Kano State.
