KanSLAM Appoints DG Primary Health Care Board Prof. Ahmad as BoT Chair

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB) today played host to a delegation from the Kano State-Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM), who paid a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the new Director General of the Board, Professor Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, following his deployment from the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) to head SPHCMB.

During the visit, the KanSLAM delegation, led by the organization’s secretary who represented the Co-Chair, presented a formal letter of appointment to Professor Ahmad, appointing him as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the accountability body. The appointment comes in recognition of Professor Ahmad’s proven track record in health sector leadership, service delivery, and institutional reforms.


A press statement issued to newsmen by Sa’adatu Suleiman, the Public Relations Officer of the Board quoted, Prof. Ahmad expressing heartfelt gratitude to KanSLAM for the dual honour of their visit and his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He described the gesture as a vote of confidence and a motivation to continue his work with renewed commitment.

"I am truly honoured by this recognition and the trust KanSLAM has placed in me. I accept this appointment with a deep sense of duty and responsibility. It is my hope that together, we will drive forward reforms that ensure transparency, equity, and quality in the delivery of primary health care services across Kano State," Professor Ahmad said.

The Director General further charged KanSLAM to focus more attention on maternal and child health care, routine immunization coverage, and financial accountability within the health sector. He noted that strengthening these areas would be key in advancing the Board’s mandate and improving health outcomes for the people of Kano.

The visit was marked by a warm atmosphere of collaboration and shared vision, as both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working closely in promoting accessible and accountable health care delivery throughout the state.
